In the pink: The London Eye for Valentine's Day

In the mood for love in London

If you fancy treating your loved one to something a little more original than dinner and a movie this Valentine’s Day, (on 14 February, in case you’ve missed the massive, red, heart-shaped reminders on display in just about every shop window and restaurant out there), then get yourself to London where we’ve tracked down the wackiest and soppiest Valentine’s events out there – don’t thank us all at once!

Valentine’s Day on the London Eye

Magnificent views. Check. Champagne. Check. Red rose. Check. The London Eye knows its Valentine’s Day essentials alright and has even created special packages for loved up couples over the Valentine’s Day weekend. A Valentine’s Champagne Experience starts from £31.54 per person (online price) and includes a glass of champagne, chocolates and a red rose, not to mention stunning panoramic views over London’s skyscape.

If you’re feeling flush, why not book your very own private capsule on the London Eye? A romantic private capsule, with an unbeatable view of the city, complete with a bottle of Pommery Brut Royal Rosé Champagne, a red rose to give to your sweetheart and a box of Charbonnel et Walker pink champagne truffles, as well as priority boarding could be yours for a mere £315. Available daily from 11-14 Feb.

Another London landmark that has come over all amorous for Valentine’s Day is Tower Bridge. The walkways are decorated with flowers and subtle lighting, which, combined with the panoramic views, complimentary chocolate and glass of champagne on arrival, makes for an extremely romantic setting. Love Actually – Valentine’s Day in London

If an unusual or extravagant Valentine’s Day just doesn’t appeal, you could always fall back on the more traditional romantic ritual of settling down with your other half and a romantic film. Modern romance Brokeback Mountain and vintage classic To Have and to Have Not are showing at BFI Southbank, while Cineworld is screening Ghost, and even giving out free chocolate bars—sigh, now that’s what we call true love!
