THE PARROT ZOO

Who’d have thought it – The Parrot Zoo, at Friskney, halfway between Boston and Skegness, houses the UK’s largest collection of tropical squawkers. Its biggest draw is a huge, walk-through enclosure where you can feed the birds and let them perch on you. There’s also an 11-acre nature reserve set around a lake, a picnic area with a prime view of the macaw aviary, and a delightful Special Needs Arena for birds needing tender loving care. parrotzoo.com

Among the attractions are an authentic WWI tank named “Flirt”, a working 18th-century windmill run by volunteers, and interactive galleries on the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment. lincolnshire.gov.uk
