East Midlands for the Olympics?
With precisely 707 days to go until the London 2012 Olympic games open, we can barely contain our excitement. But if two years is simply too long to wait, you can get your regular fix of athletics right here at TopThingsToDo.co.uk.
East Midlands 2012
Yes, the spotlight might be on host city London, but the East Midlands region has a proud tradition of producing elite athletes, from kayaker David Florence, silver medalist in Beijing, to paralympic discus-thrower Daniel Greaves, a world record holder. And no wonder, the region is home to world-class sports facilities, including the prestigious Loughborough University, official headquarters for Team GB in the run-up to 2012. In fact, the region boasts 29 officially registered Pre-Games Training Camps – from Arena UK in Lincolnshire to the National Water Sports Centre in Nottinghamshire.
Pride of the East Midlands
In celebration of the extraordinary talent to emanate from this region, East Midlands Tourism has produced these stunning portraits of the athletes that live and train in the area. And if you want to find out what it takes to make the grade, watch this space ¬– interviews with the sporting stars themselves are coming soon.
